Born in 1987, Alexa Torre is a photographer and visual artist born and based in Merida, Yucatán, México. Torre studied communications at Universidad Anáhuac México and photography at the New England School of Photography in Boston, MA. Her work has been exhibited in the Centro Cultural Los Pinos, Fotomexico 2019, Adhesivo Contemporary, Galería Obra Negra, and Apartaco CDMX in Mexico, as well as The Other Art Fair in New York City, Gericke + Paffrath Gallery in Germany, and Galerie UMCEBO in Paris. Her most recent show, “Al ras del Cielo,” took place in her native city, Merida. Torre has also participated in various art fairs and has collaborated with magazines such as Cuartoscuro, National Geographic, Huffington Post, Saatchi Art, and Artsy. Her photography series mainly focus on women as physical or symbolic protagonists. She uses irony and social stereotypes to represent everyday life as a series of details that resonate with the spectator through memory.
