The Artist

Gabriela Azar Rubagotti (b. 1995, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a Dominican artist currently based in Italy. Coming from a family of professional visual artists, Gabriela grew up within creative environments, art galleries, and art studios from an early age. She obtained her BA degree in Architecture at Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and her MA degree in Fashion at Istituto Marangoni in Milan, Italy. Through the years, Azar Rubagotti has forged an aesthetic taste and chromatic sensitivity that have led her to develop a personal and distinctive style, the result of an artistic vision matured through experiences in various creative fields. Azar Rubagotti’s practice moves between abstraction and figuration, exploring nature and landscape as perceptual and emotional spaces. Through fluid gestures, and atmospheric compositions, she investigates memory, femininity, and the resonance of the intangible. Her Caribbean heritage informs the sensorial dimension of the work, while her background in architecture, interior design, and fashion shapes her interest in the relationship between image, space, and viewer. Her work is distinguished by the use of light tones, and traces of gold where movement becomes a defining element, creating sensorial illusions of air, water, and fluid matter that evoke imaginary or remembered moments, unfolding as atmospheric landscapes suspended in time. The artist has participated in solo, duo, and group exhibitions across Europe, and was invited to the Beijing International Art Biennale (BIAB) (2025), a prestigious international biennial that further solidified her presence on the global art scene. She has also expanded her career in Asia through her participation in the Arte Laguna Prize Shanghai International Exhibition (2025), presented at the EKA Tianwu Cultural and Art District, one of the continent’s most dynamic contemporary art contexts. Her work has been recognized in international competitions such as the Premio Combat Prize (2024), and featured in international publications including Contemporary Art Collectors Book Vol. 1 (2023), which highlights one hundred promising emerging artists. In parallel with her artistic practice, she has developed collaborations connected to architecture, interior design, and hospitality projects, presenting her work in contexts that explore the dialogue between art and space. She has participated in international art and design fairs, including the Unfair Contemporary Art Fair in Milan and the Salone del Mobile during Milan Design Week, the world’s leading event for design and interior innovation.

About the work
Acrylic on canvas This small format work, intimate in scale yet expansive in atmosphere, captures the fleeting sensation of forms drifting through air, like leaves carried by an unseen wind. Color, light, and organic motion unfold intuitively in a soft, rhythmic flow, gentle yet assured, echoing cycles of nature and breath.
