María Monegro

María Monegro is a Caribbean painter, currently based in Catalunya. She was born in 1990 in Dominican Republic, where she grew up. Monegro graduated from the Altos de Chavón School of Design in 2012 and from Parsons the New School for Design in 2014. She creates portraits set in landscapes, exploring the weight of the bodies depicted. Thematically, she explores the erotic, love, sex, trauma, and her imaginary of the Caribbean. Monegro is particularly interested in creating mid to large scale oil paintings and drawings. She is currently a resident at La Volta Cultural Association in Girona, Catalunya.
