About the work
My art springs from the heart of my homeland, the Caribbean gem, the Dominican Republic. Its breathtaking beauty, rich Afro-Caribbean heritage, and complex social landscape inspire me. "Imagined Order" is my ongoing quest to blend the dreamy Caribbean ideals with the gritty truths of my world. Through my lens, the human form amidst nature becomes a gateway to deeper understanding, transcending mere visuals. In this series, taken in the small coastal community of Boya, everyday images take on a mystical allure, woven together by a strand of magical thought. I capture objects, animals, and moments laden with significance, symbols of danger or sanctuary. By juxtaposing them with the ordinary, I challenge the fixed meaning of events, revealing the fluidity of reality. As I journey through shifting circumstances and places, my symbols morph, enriching the mundane with new layers of meaning. What began as a study of still life has transformed into an instinctual exploration of joy, intimacy, and mortality. What does happiness look like? How does death feel? "Imagined Order" is my pathway to understanding and expanding my visual language. It guides me to find meaning in my surroundings and fosters a conscious connection with my context. Each element in my compositions is not just an object but a synchronicity, a message, a slice of life itself.
