Catalysta’s First (Certainly Not Last) Pop-up

This November, we are holding our first pop-up, where our fellow art lovers and collectors can connect offline and explore Catalysta’s art in person. Galería Pop-up will take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, gathering works from local and international artists, including several from Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico and Venezuela. The space aims to provide visitors with a range of works based on diverse concepts, practices and methods.

Among those participating, you’ll find photographers Alexa Torre, Claudia Hidalgo, Elisa Bergel Melo and Taeko Nomiya. The latter tests the limits of the image by creating double exposures, synchronizing stills to tell a narrative and stress parallels between Mexico and Japan—her two nationalities. Her process results in quasi-spiritual palimpsests of passing reflections that suggest inner worlds beyond the visual. Employing a different method—one based on movement, repetition and the unforeseen effects of temperature and time—Bergel Melo similarly exploits the technical limits of photography to question, however, the subjectivity of things, images and places that arise from reality. Despite their different approaches, the four artists produce equally strongly evocative images through humor, color, experimentation or composition. Notions of perception, locale and documentation inform their practices.

Other participating artists include Gabriela Farias, known for her colorful three-dimensional pieces comprising organic and geometric shapes that blur lines between sculpture and painting; María Otero; painters María Monegro, Sandra De León Torres and Fernanda Carri, who work in a variety of surfaces; paper sculptor Jairo Manzano; and multidisciplinary artist José Morbán.

If you’re in Santo Domingo this coming November 16 th , stop by Galería Pop-up and don’t miss this opportunity to explore, digest and purchase art from this incredibly talented group of artists. The event will take place at Arzobispo Meriño 108 at 6:30 p.m. We’re excited to host you and help foster deeper relationships within our community. We look forward to seeing you there!
