We are delighted to be part of the 2024 edition of Art on Paper New York. In this article you will learn more about our booth for this edition.

For the 2024 edition of Art on Paper New York our booth proudly features a curated selection of works by three distinguished artists: Salvadoran artist Mau Samayoa, Colombian artist Maria Paula Suarez, and Cuban artist James Bonachea. Each artist's practice is rooted in the medium of paper, yet they each bring distinct and innovative approaches to their craft. This collection underscores the artistic excellence and inventive techniques that these artists represent, while simultaneously honoring the cultural and geographical nuances that inform their work. Through these varied lenses, the booth serves as a platform for celebrating both tradition and forward-thinking creativity. Mau Samayoa's work delves into the intricacies of sculpting with paper, transforming the medium into tactile, three-dimensional forms that evoke the richness of Salvadoran heritage and personal narrative. Maria Paula Suarez, on the other hand, employs embroidery on paper to weave together threads of memory and identity, drawing upon the vibrant cultural tapestry of Colombia. James Bonachea's paintings on paper explore the layered complexities of Cuban society, using color and texture to convey a deep sense of place and history. Although each artist's approach to paper is unique, their works collectively explore profound themes of cultural heritage, personal history, and societal roles.
This selection of artworks challenges viewers to consider the layers of identity that shape our understanding of self and community. Through their distinctive practices, the artists invite us to reflect on the multifaceted nature of identity in the contemporary world. Their works serve as a mirror, reflecting both their personal journeys and the broader cultural landscapes they inhabit. By bringing together these powerful works in a shared space, the booth extends an invitation to visitors to engage critically with the concept of identity in today’s society. It is our hope that this exhibition sparks meaningful conversations and fosters a sense of curiosity and connection among viewers. In showcasing the diverse voices and perspectives of these artists, we aim to contribute to a more inclusive and interconnected world—one in which different cultures and patterns can coexist and enrich one another.

Moreover, we believe that the art we choose to display in our personal spaces speaks volumes not only about the artist but also about ourselves. Each piece we select creates a network of connections, bridging the gap between the creator's intent and our own experiences and stories. As this network expands, it becomes a testament to the power of art to transcend boundaries, linking individuals across time, space, and culture. Through these connections, the artwork evolves, taking on new meanings as it becomes intertwined with the lives of those who encounter it.
